Mental Health First Aid refers to the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Since 2010 the program has taught thousands of Canadians how to respond to mental health emergencies. Mental Health READY offers the following Mental Health First Aid trainings:
Mental Health First Aid Standard (Virtual)
Mental Health First Aid Standard (Face-to-Face)
Mental Health First Aid Supporting Youth (Virtual)
Mental Health First Aid Supporting Youth (Face-to-Face)
Mental Health First Aid Standard - Virtual - certified- 3 Modules (9 hours)
This 9-hour certified course opens with a self-directed module (Module 1 - approximately 2 hours) that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the virtual classroom modules (Modules 2 and 3 - 3.5 hours each). Course participants are required to complete Module 1 before participating in Modules 2 and 3.
Module 1
- Introduction to the course
- Introduction to MHFA actions
Module 2
- Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being
- Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
Module 3
- Discussion on using MHFA actions for self-care
- Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations
Mental Health First Aid Standard - Face-to-Face - certified - 3 Modules (9 hours)
Same as course option above but is provided in-person with the exception of Module 1 which is self directed
(approximately 2 hours)
Mental Health First Aid Supporting Youth - Virtual - certified - 3 Modules (10 hours)
This 10-hour certified course opens with a self-directed module (Module 1 - approximately 2 hours)) that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the virtual classroom modules (Modules 2 and 3 - 4 hours each). Course participants are required to complete Module 1 before participating in Modules 2 and 3.
